The National Center for Disaster Preparedness (NCDP) is a research and policy center based at Columbia University’s Earth Institute. It focuses on enhancing the nation’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, including natural hazards, pandemics, and terrorist attacks. The center engages in a broad range of activities, including research, training, and policy advocacy.
Through its multidisciplinary approach, the NCDP seeks to build a more resilient society, ensuring that communities are better prepared for future disasters and can recover more effectively.
As the lead developer, I directed the strategic planning and execution of a large-scale website overhaul, managing user journeys, UI/UX enhancements, wireframe review, and provided input and direction during the design process. One of the primary challenges was the sheer volume of content, consisting of hundreds of pages and posts, each requiring significant data cleanup and a refined content structure. To address this, I implemented an organized project management and review system that provided the client with clear visibility into our progress and the necessary steps to reach project completion. I’ve also instilled accessibility best practices during the development of the site to allow for the NCDP to meet WCAG and ADA compliance.
